Privacy

Riffboard is a product of AVJW Studio. This statement covers two related but different contexts: the Riffboard desktop application and the public website at riffboard.app.

The desktop application's privacy posture is not the same as ordinary website behavior. Audio capture and transcription are designed to run locally. The website may use optional analytics only after you allow them.

Riffboard Desktop Application

The desktop application is a Windows workspace for capturing musical ideas. Its core job is to listen to an audio input, process that audio on your computer, and help you arrange and read the resulting musical ideas.

Audio access

Riffboard accesses audio input because capture is core to the product. Without an audio input, RiffCatch cannot record a performance.

You may supply audio through an available Windows audio-input device, such as a computer microphone or another system input, or through a compatible external USB audio interface. A guitar may be connected through such an interface. No particular interface brand is required.

Local processing

Riffboard processes captured audio and performs transcription locally on your computer. Riffboard does not send your guitar recordings to AVJW Studio for transcription by default.

Local processing means the performance you capture stays on your machine for transcription unless you later choose to share files or communications yourself.

Local application data

Riffboard may store data locally on your computer as needed for normal operation. On Windows, local-first application data may live under your user application-data folder for Riffboard.

Depending on how you use the app, local data may include categories such as:

• Application settings and preferences
• Locally created Riffboard boards and related musical content
• Capture and transcription working data
• Export-related state
• Other user-generated application state needed to reopen your work

Exact file layouts and retention behavior may change as the product evolves. Riffboard does not currently claim automatic deletion of all local files after a session.

Network activity

Audio capture and transcription are local. That does not mean the desktop application never uses the network.

The application may access the network for explicitly implemented website or release-related functions — for example opening a website link in your browser, or an optional release-policy / update-related fetch when that feature is configured. Help → Check for Updates is policy-based and does not automatically download installers in the current alpha.

Opening an external website means that destination's own privacy practices may apply once your browser loads it.

What the desktop app does not currently collect

Based on the current application architecture, the desktop app does not operate:

• A user account or profile system
• Advertising tracking
• Desktop telemetry
• Desktop analytics
• Automatic crash-report uploads
• Cloud transcription of guitar recordings by default

If these capabilities change in a future release, this page will be updated.

Riffboard Website

The public website at riffboard.app describes Riffboard, publishes Field Notes, and reports download status. It does not upload your music, audio, notation, or Rifflet content.

Optional website analytics

When a Google Analytics measurement ID is configured for the deployment — as it is for the current production site — the website may offer optional Google Analytics 4.

Analytics are off by default. The external Google script loads, and measurement requests are sent, only after you choose Allow analytics. Choosing No thanks keeps analytics off. Declining does not limit access to the site.

The preference is stored locally in this browser as riffboard:analytics-consent:v1 with the value granted or denied. Google Consent Mode keeps analytics storage denied until you allow it, and returns it to denied if you change your mind. No advertising or personalization consent is collected.

This website does not collect email addresses through forms and does not offer an account or waitlist opt-in.

What high-level events may be measured

After consent, the site may measure page views and a small set of product-site events: demo video start, progress (25% / 50% / 75%), and completion; visits to the download status page; and clicks on tester interest, GitHub, or contact actions where those controls exist.

Events do not include audio, notation, musical ideas, email addresses, form field contents, or full user-generated URLs.

Hosting and platform logs

The site is served through Netlify. The riffboard.app domain uses Cloudflare for DNS. These platforms may collect basic server or infrastructure logs — such as IP addresses, requested pages, and timestamps — as part of operating their services. That logging is governed by the providers' own privacy policies.

What this website does not do

• There are no user accounts and no way to sign in
• No audio, notation, or Rifflet content is uploaded or collected through website analytics
• No public application installer is offered yet

Information you send us

If you email AVJW Studio — for example with a support question, bug report, or other inquiry — you choose what to include in that message. We use that information to respond and to operate or support Riffboard.

Riffboard does not currently provide a user account system on the website or in the desktop application.

Third-party services

Services differ by context.

Desktop application

Capture and transcription run locally. Network use is limited to explicitly implemented website or release-related functions described above. Destination sites you open in a browser have their own privacy practices.

Website

Production hosting uses Netlify. DNS for riffboard.app uses Cloudflare. Optional website analytics, when allowed, use Google Analytics 4 / Google Tag Manager endpoints as configured for the deployment.

Sharing of information

AVJW Studio does not sell Riffboard user recordings or transcription data.

Audio and transcription work for the desktop app is processed locally by default. Information you voluntarily send to AVJW Studio is used to handle that communication. Website hosting and optional analytics providers process data only as needed to provide those services, under their own terms.

We may disclose information if required by law.

Data retention and your choices

Local application data remains under your control on your computer. You can remove locally stored Riffboard data through the application, your operating system, or ordinary file management where those mechanisms apply.

On the website, you can grant, deny, or change optional analytics consent at any time using the preference controls on this page.

Communications you send to AVJW Studio may be retained as reasonably necessary to handle the request or maintain ordinary business records. There is no published fixed retention schedule beyond that practical need.

Children

Riffboard is intended for adult musicians and developers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the website or the desktop application.

As Riffboard evolves, this policy may change. When it does, we will update this page and the effective date shown above.
